Assignment to complete before week 3: Do one mind-body practice twice during the week

Week 3: Mind-Body Practices (Ms. Beth Pillsbury, LICSW)

  • Slides from class with resources- Download slides
  • 15-minute meditation “Meditating with Dr. Jonas: A Breathing Exercise”
  • Meditation and Imagery
  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV): HeartMath: biofeedback device recommended by Dr. Jonas. He suggests the Inner Balance which is done through a smart phone; one could use the EmWave if a a simple feedback device is desired, rather than using a smart phone. After ordering and receiving the device, remember that to create a restful space to use it in; a relaxing and quiet place you can practice where you will not be disturbed. It takes 20-30 minutes a day for 6-8 weeks for the brain to change – but it does, so keep it up.

Assignment to complete before week 5: Practice Tai chi; Be prepared to talk about 1 self-care and 1 treatment tool that  sometimes works for you to decrease your pain
